Part 3 of the previous heat sink post.
To recap…..
We have built the aluminium bar into a heat sink with peltiers and heat sinks and fans, now it is time to fit it to our fermentation cabinet.
Below you can see what we are building today.
More after the break

Step 1 – Cut hole in cabinet
Step 2 – Fit the aluminium bar
Step 3 – Mark and drill the holes
Step 4 – Finished
Tools Required
Electric hand drill
Jigsaw
Screwdriver
Parts List
Assembled aluminium block from part 2
8 x self tapping screws with flat head
Step 1 – Cut hole in cabinet
Lay the aluminium bar on to the cabinet where you want the peltier unit and mark out the hole to cut. You will want to drill a hole to start off the jigsaw cut.
Make sure that you cut the hole a couple of mm larger than the aluminium bar to account for the plastic extrusion.
Make sure to cut small rebates to take into account the bolt heads. You dont have to be too accurate, just make them a little bigger for an easy fit.
Step 2 – Fit the aluminium bar
Simply push the aluminium bar into the hole that you have just cut. It should be a comfortable fit, not too tight and not too sloppy. If it is too sloppy you might be losing heat or cold as there wont be any insulation.
Step 3 – Mark and drill the holes
All we are aiming to do here is to securely fasten the unit in place. The number of screws is up to the installer, however I used 8.
Step 4 – Screw into place
Screw the unit into place with the self tapper screws and you are now complete.
Stay tuned for our next installment when we assemble the peltier unit.
